Ramune – Japanese Soda

Product Description

How long will it take you to figure out how to drink this popular Japanese soda. Ramune is the modern symbol of summer in Japan. It’s not as sweet as American soda and is slightly more carbonated. But that’s not what makes Ramune unique – this wonderful beverage comes in a uniquely pinched neck Codd-bottle. The bottle was invented in 1872 by Hiram Codd. It’s not sealed with a cap or a flip top but with a marble instead. Yes, a marble. The carbonated beverage forces the marble up against the opening, holding it in place. To open the bottle, you press down on a small plunger which releases the marble into the bottle.

Ramune is one of the few sodas that is still sold in the unique Codd-neck bottle. Ramune derived its name from the Japanese word for lemonade (remon). Lemonade was introduced in Japan by the British in the late 1880’s. The Codd-bottle was the standard for carbonated drinks at that time. Ramune Original came to the United States in the 1990’s and grows more popular each year. There are even You-Tube videos dedicated to the opening and drinking of the soda. I’ll give you a hint on drinking this fun, fizzy drink. Try to stop the marble with one of the glass nodes in the neck of the bottle.

Ramune sampler pack includes Original (lemon/lime), Melon, Strawberry, Plum, Grape and Orange flavors. You’ll get one 6.76 fl. oz. bottle of each flavor.
